The viewing tower at the harbour

In 1824, King William I ordered the construction of the first steamships. Little by little the harbour was extended and from 1850 trains of the Swabian Railway were able to travel directly to the harbour. The salt crane on the promenade bears witness of the once major salt trade. The former salt barn was destroyed – in its place is now a modern glass complex.
