It’s Ferdinand again, and my ideas are still going! Work on my first Zeppelin was started here in Friedrichshafen in 1900, and a lot has changed since then. 119 models have been built, and they’ve always become more modern and safer. But even if the golden age of the Zeppelin has passed, the airships are still a masterpiece of technology and a tourist attraction. The concept of airship travel has not completely disappeared and I’ve got a few other clever brains to thank for that.
Since 1993, the Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik GmbH has worked on a combination of the previous experience that I gained, and modern ideas. So even after the golden age of the Zeppelin, they remain alive and modern – and above all, in the air, whether it’s for tourists or for science and research.
The Zeppelins have also not stopped being impressive – they are 75m long. That’s longer than an Airbus A380! The hangar is also huge – one of the largest in southern Germany. 110m long and 34m high!
The largest and most modern model, the Zeppelin NT, regularly flies 13 different routes over Lake Constance. The Zeppelins fly lower than usual planes and have larger windows so that the passengers can enjoy the landscape.
If you want to find out more about the technology, you should start off on the ground. In the Zeppelin hangar you can find out all about the world of airship building and other interesting information about Zeppelins. What’s more, you can examine the technology yourself and even hold original parts of the Zeppelin NT in your hand! Have fun!
