Show House in Zeppelin Village

It’s me again, Count Zeppelin! I’m sure you’ve noticed by now that many things here in Friedrichshafen are named after me. Even this housing estate is called Zeppelin village.

Once my airships became properly successful, I was able to found the Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH. I then obviously needed people to build the Zeppelins for me! So from all over the country, workers came to Friedrichshafen – but there weren’t enough houses. So I simply built them new houses. Not just one, no. 76 houses.

Then there was enough space for their families and there was a large garden where fruit and vegetables were grown. The houses weren’t as comfortable as today, of course – there was only one sink in the whole house! There was also no heating, just a fireplace. But for that time, this was a real luxury. Workers were otherwise unable to afford such a large house and plot of land.
